ATA Carnet
Customs & TradeDefinition
An international customs document (issued under the ATA Convention and the Istanbul Convention) that allows the temporary import of goods without paying duties or import taxes in over 80 countries. ATA stands for "Admission Temporaire / Temporary Admission." Carnets are commonly used for commercial samples, professional equipment, and goods for display at exhibitions or fairs. In time-critical logistics, an ATA Carnet can save hours of customs processing and eliminate the need for a cash deposit or bond at each border crossing.
