SSR Code

Aviation Codes

Definition

Special Service Request — a standardized code used in airline reservation systems to request special handling for a passenger or shipment. Common SSR codes in time-critical logistics: XBAG (excess baggage), AVIH (animal in hold), DGHR (dangerous goods), MEDA (medical case), and UMNR (unaccompanied minor — sometimes used for courier-escorted shipments). When an OBC courier books a flight, the logistics provider files the appropriate SSR codes to ensure the airline is prepared for the special cargo.
