Freight transported in the cargo hold (belly) of a passenger aircraft, as opposed to dedicated freighter aircraft. Belly cargo capacity varies from 1-3 tonnes on narrowbody aircraft to 10-30 tonnes on widebody aircraft. Most OBC shipments travel as belly cargo — the courier checks the shipment as carry-on or excess baggage, and any additional items go in the belly hold. Belly cargo space is allocated on a first-come basis, making advance booking critical during peak shipping seasons.
