Consolidation

Definition

The practice of combining multiple smaller shipments into a single larger shipment to achieve better rates or more efficient transport. While consolidation is common in conventional air and ocean freight, it is less typical in time-critical logistics where speed is paramount and shipments often travel individually via OBC or NFO. However, consolidation may be used for non-urgent backorders or when multiple shipments from the same origin share a destination.
