Master Air Waybill

Logistics Terms

Definition

The air waybill issued by the airline covering a consolidated shipment arranged by a freight forwarder.

One MAWB can contain multiple HAWBs (individual shipments from different shippers). The MAWB is the contract between the airline and the freight forwarder, while each HAWB is the contract between the forwarder and the individual shipper.

In OBC/NFO operations, most shipments use a direct AWB rather than the MAWB/HAWB consolidation structure.
